The online hackavists supporting
the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have claimed responsibility for
hacking the official Twitter account of French news agency Agence
France-Presse, commonly known as AFP.
The account which goes with the handle of @AFPphoto was hacked few hours ago, posting Tweets against the rebels and in support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
AFP also confirmed that their “Twitter account was hacked, all the images and Tweets posted were done by the hackers and now the account has been suspended as per our request to the Twitter authorities.”
The hackers have also claimed responsibility of the hack on their official Facebook page and on their website.
Syrian Electronic Army is known for their high profile hacks, this is the same group that had hacked the official Twitter and Facebook accounts of SkyNews Arabia, official website of Al-Jazeera News channel and Israeli news site Haaretz.
At the time of publishing this article, the AFP’s Twitter account was suspended until further notice.
