OpSaudi: Hackers Shutdown Saudi Bank Website

On Wednesday 17th Feb, 2015, a group of hacktivists calling themselves “The oppressed defenders” conducted a cyber attack on Saudi Arabian based bank AlJazira in shape of a Distributed denial of service attack (DD0S).

As a result the online banking and e-service domains of bank AlJazira were forced to go offline for more than thirty minutes.

One of the hacker told HackRead the reason behind targeting this bank was human rights violations within the Kingdom.
Hacker claimed they had warned the new Saudi king Salman bin Abdulaziz to stop violating human rights in the country or prepare yourself for never ending cyber attacks.

In past few weeks the same group had attacked Saudi financial institutions such as Samba, Alahli and Riyad bank.
“Those attacks on Samba, Alahli, Riyad bank were just small warnings to the Saudi regime and it’s king and if they don’t pay attention to the demands made by people, there will be attacks with more strength than before. These attacks are warnings to make Saudi regime change its behavior with the people and stops its wrong policies,” the hacker added.

Below are screenshots showing the bank’s site were down:

Identity of hackers remain unknown, but in an email HackRead was told there will be new and more powerful cyber attacks on Saudi financial institutions to put an end to violations of human rights in the Kingdom.

At the time of publishing this article, the Bank AlJazira was restored and available online.

As cyber attacks detonate, banks gird for battle

Banks large and small are girding for an elaborate drill this week that will test how they would fare if hackers unleashed a powerful and coordinated attack against them.
The exercise is being called "Quantum Dawn 2," and if the name sounds like a video game, it's also meant to convey the seriousness of the threat.
Cyberattacks on the banking industry are growing more frequent and sophisticated and the list of assailants is ever-changing: crime bosses who want money, "hacktivists" who want to make political statements, foreign governments that want to spy on U.S. companies. A successful, widespread attack on the industry would shake confidence in the banking system, and the possibility has banks and regulators on edge.

Cyber Attacks Continue On Israel

Israel for weeks now has been a main focus for a lot of hacktivist from all walks of life and many different corners of the world. Many hacktivist from Anonymous to other collectives have joined to attack Israel’s cyber space after the recent attacks on the Gaza strip.

Over the past couple of weeks the attacks have continued on leaving many sites offline, defaced or with data being leaked but mostly defacement’s have been taking place as a way to spread a common message, stop the war.
The recent attacks have been not only on Israeli based sites but some new Zealand  Australian and Italian websites have also been breached and left defaced.
There has been a claimed leak of credit cards from a Israeli based website (http://www.yasam.co.il) which is a complete database extraction with some minor details that has been posted to pastebin.
A few sites got “tango down” as well,
elal.co.il
tamas.gov.il

The probable changes in targets of cyber attacks

The recent attacks of an Islamic group such as AL-Qasam to American banks has been entered in its second phase while in spite of this point that the American Banks had been warned formerly, so far they have not been able to prevent against these destructive attacks.
However Al-Qassam group say these attacks will be continued in future and till the film insulting to Prophet of Islam will be removed from YouTube, but there is such a probability that if the expectation of Al-Qasam would not be carried out, they will change their targets in the future.
Still, it is not so clear that what the changes are, but if the attacks will be going to develop, definitely the effect of the attacks will be much more and the defense against them will be so much harder.
